In this series of 288 paintings, Mon (Long Valley, NJ) encompasses the entry of new places that are both real and fantasy. They comment and reflect on humanity as individuals and as a whole in current issues involving politics or humanitarianism. Mon also invited other artists to participate by designing Flags for the New Land, which resulted in multitudes of ideas and imagery, and 73 flags, which will also be on view. Steeplechase Distance Run

The 11th annual Steeplechase Distance Run will be held Sunday, Sept. 29 at Amsterdam School in Hillsborough. The event features 10K and 5K runs, a 2-mile walk and kids’ sprints. The event benefits the Steeplechase Cancer Center at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset in Somerville. Registration for the 10K Run, 5K Run and 2 Mile Walk is $30 (16 years old and older) and $15 (15 years old and younger) until September 24. After September 24, registration fees are $33 for all entries and $10 for the Kids’ Sprints. Participants will receive an event t-shirt. Check-in and registration for the Steeplechase Distance Run will begin at 7:30 a.m. The 10K race begins at 8:45 a.m. followed by the 5K race at 9:30 a.m. and the Kids’ Sprints at 10:45 a.m. An awards ceremony for the 10K race will begin at 10:15 a.m., followed by an awards ceremony for the 5K race at 11:00 a.m. The event will be held rain or shine. Free Bernardsville Library Concert To Feature Irish Harpist Sharlys Dugan

The Friends of the Bernardsville Public Library will host a free concert by award-winning Irish harpist Sharlys Dugan on Sunday, September 29 at 3:00 pm in the library’s Community Room. There will be Irish step dancing, including an audience-participation demonstration, Irish songs, as well as stories and jokes. Ms. Dugan, who also performs with her tin whistle, is best known for her 11-year career with Dugan’s Hooligans, a New Jersey-based Celtic eclectic ensemble starring Sharlys and her brother, Connor Dugan. She has been playing the harp for nearly two decades and performing professionally since she was seven years old. A talented musician, dancer and vocalist, she is an engaging performer and a natural entertainer. This is a free concert funded by the Friends of the Bernardsville Library. Light refreshments will be served. Doors open at 2:45 pm. No sign-up is needed.
