Larry Kerner’s Photographs on Display at Bernardsville Library in June

June 2 @ 10:00 am - June 28 @ 5:00 pm
NJ United States + Google Map
Free

Bernardsville Public Library is pleased to present "Stay, This Moment - Photographs by Larry Kerner.” The show will be on view from June 2 to June 28, 2019 at 1 Anderson Hill Road, Bernardsville. Hiking and camping while young introduced Mr. Kerner to the grandeur of nature and gave him respect for the preservation of wilderness. The West Coast piqued his interest, and he began capturing images on film in color and in black and white. Since then, his camera has been “his eyes.” His interpretations range from cloud-capped canyons to tumbling mountain streams and waterfalls. The images in this show have been captured on film and digital media. Mr. Kerner is a member of the Chatham Township Art League and the Vailsburg Camera Club of Springfield. He lives in Chatham Township, NJ. The show will be open for viewing during regular library hours, unless a meeting is in progress. For more information on the show, call the library at 908-766-0118.

Free

Vivian Gordon, art historian and former lecturer in the Education Department at The Metropolitan Museum, will present an illustrated talk at Bernardsville Public Library on Thursday, June 12 at 7:30 pm on “Toulouse-Lautrec and the Stars of Paris,” an exhibition now on view at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec is popular for his bold paintings and prints that perfectly capture the racy spirit and seedy side of late 19th-century Paris. This talk will focus on some of the entertainers and habitués of bohemian Montmartre befriended by Lautrec and immortalized through his art. Lautrec’s “stars of Paris” – precursors of those made famous in today’s celebrity culture – are featured in this show. The exhibition explores Lautrec’s fascination with the personal lives of “les stars” as well as the roles that they played. With expressive lines and brazen colors, he depicted the defining gestures, costumes, and expressions of spectacular performers, many of whom were his personal friends and habitués of Montmartre, the focus of Parisian nightlife and a haven for acrobatic dancers and destitute students, reprobate aristocrats and middle-class pleasure-seekers. The exhibition includes approximately 200 works and also incorporates works by Lautrec’s contemporaries Pierre Bonnard, Mary Cassatt, Learn More ...
