2019 Leonard J. Buck Art & Photography Exhibit

Art & Photography Exhibit at the Leonard J. Buck Garden The event runs weekdays (M-F) from February 19 – March 22, 2019, from 10 am – 4:00 pm and on one Saturday, March 9th from 12 pm – 4 pm. Showcasing the four seasons at Leonard J. Buck Garden, Far Hills, NJ the exhibit will feature photographs, paintings, and drawings of Buck Garden. See the Garden’s many faces through the works of talented artists and photographers. This exhibit will be held at the Leonard. J. Buck Garden Visitor Center – Free to public Monday-Friday from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. only. Call 908-722-1200, ext. 5621 for information The Leonard J. Buck Garden is one of the premier rock gardens in the eastern United States. Begun in the late 1930s, the garden has reached a breathtaking point of maturity, consisting of alpine and woodland gardens situated in a 30-acre wooded stream valley. The garden features native and exotic plants displayed in a naturalistic setting. A wooded, rocky ravine is home to numerous wildflowers interspersed among flowering trees and shrubs.

CCA Members to Exhibit at Bernardsville Library in March

Bernardsville Public Library is pleased to present The Center for Contemporary Art Members’ Juried Exhibition during the month of March. The show opens on March 2, and there will be an artists' reception on Sunday, March 3 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm to which the public is invited. The exhibition will feature more than 30 works of art selected by Juror Jill Kerwick, a New Jersey-based artist who has a Master of Arts from New York University and a BFA from Moore College of Art in Philadelphia. She was recently featured in solo exhibitions at The Center for Contemporary Art and Beauregard Fine Art in Rumson, NJ. Her selections were made from nearly 200 entries submitted by members of The Center. This exhibition is an opportunity for members of The Center to showcase their artwork in any and all media. The variety and range of entries is a testament to the diversity and creativity of The Center’s community of artists. Mediums this year include painting, charcoal, ink, graphite, photography, digital art, mixed media, and ceramics. Women in the Arts (Art Show) @ the Farmstead Arts Center

The Farmstead Arts Center presents the Women in the Arts show, an exhibition which will display work by notable women artists in honor of Women’s History Month. The show be displayed in the Farmstead gallery from March 3rd to April 7th. Free admission. Farmstead Arts’ annual celebration of Women’s History Month will kick off with the Women in the Arts exhibit, featuring work by five regional artists: Roberta Scott of Middlesex, Laura Shabazz of Bernardsville, Harmony Dougher of Summit, Irene Grabowski of Basking Ridge, and Diane Churchill of Nyack, NY. The exhibit will feature a variety of mediums, including painting, collage and photography. Most works will be for sale. An opening reception will take place on March 3rd from 1pm to 4pm. Gallery hours for Women in the Arts will be held from Mondays to Wednesdays, 10am to 1pm, and Saturdays and Sundays, 1pm to 4pm, excluding March 17th and March 31st.

Maisie Brews a Business: An Historic Interpretation

On Saturday, March 9 at 2:00 pm, Bernardsville Public Library is pleased to present "Maisie Brews a Business," a dramatic presentation offered by a 1925 matron who is planning to open a Tea Room. Maureen O'Conner Leach, an historic interpreter with over 30 years' experience, is Maisie Stanton who will explain how her husband reacted to her announcement and what she is doing to prepare for the undertaking. Maisie, who is a composite character, provides the audience with a view into the challenges faced by women who were stepping out of the home and into the business world. Her monologue is based on documented information from the period. Maisie wears a tea frock that has been carefully sewn using a period pattern and her accessories either date from or are reproductions of items from the era. As one recent viewer said, “It makes you feel like you are there.” There will be a Q&A at the end of the program. The history of the Tea Room Craze at the turn of the last century has been carefully researched by Jan Whitaker who wrote "Tea at the Blue Lantern Inn." Ghostbusters released thirty-five year ago (1984) was the highest-grossing comedy film of its time. Nominated for Best Visual Effects and Best Original Song at the 57th Academy Awards. Since then, Peter, Ray, Egon, and Winston have busted their way into film history as one of the top rating comedies of all time. After losing their fellowship at Columbia University, paranormal investigators (Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson ) decide to go into business for themselves. Under the name 'Ghostbusters', the team arms themselves with electronic paraphernalia to rid the city of dozens of ghoulies, ghosties, and long-legged beasties to save New York from complete destruction.
