February 21 @ 2:00 pm - 2:30 pm
An event every week that begins at 2:00 pm on Sunday, repeating until February 28, 2021
The Raritan Valley Symphonic Band invites kids of all ages to a series of four virtual “Musical Instrument Petting Zoom” presentations on Sunday afternoons @ 2 pm during February. Admission is free and each 30 minute virtual session will feature one or more wind ensemble instruments:
February 7 – Trombones
February 14 – Flutes
February 21 – Trumpets & French Horns
February 28 – Tubas & Euphoniums
Links to each Zoom presentations can be found on the band’s website: RVSB.org
Students will receive an introduction to the instrument and its history, an explanation of the various parts of the instrument (e.g., keys, valves, tubes), brief solo and group performances with the instrument, and more. Each session will conclude with a live Q&A period.
The RVSB is one of New Jersey’s top community bands, performing at least 5 concerts annually, plus performances at the 2019 Association of Concert Bands convention and the 2017 John Basilone memorial concert.
These virtual presentations are offered this year instead of the band’s highly popular Children’s Concert, which usually features performances of light music followed by a live “instrument petting zoo”.
This program is made possible by funds from the Somerset County Cultural and Heritage Commission, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
