NJ Audubon: Moths and other Pollinators
Family Program led by Dorothy Smullen, Teacher/Naturalist
To celebrate National Moth Week (starting July 20, 2019), the Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary in Bernardsville, NJ, will run a special hour and a half program investigating our local pollinators on Sunday, July 21, 2019, between 2:00pm and 3:30pm. This program is for kids aged 9 years and up, as well as their parents.
Attendees will be able to find out about the pollination strategies of both day- and night-flying moths. Birds, bees, butterflies, and other pollinators will also be reviewed, and hand-outs on which local native plants attract these important pollinators will be distributed. Following the presentation, Dorothy will lead a short trail walk in the Sanctuary — so all participants are reminded to bring their cameras!
Dorothy Smullen is a naturalist and former high school science educator. She was the President of the New Jersey Mycological Association and the Northeastern Mycological Federation. She received her MA in Biology from Brooklyn College, and in 2016 received the North American Mycological Association’s 2016 Gary Lincoff Award for Contributions to Amateur Mycology.
