250 years ago George Washington departed the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia to take command of the new Continental Army at Cambridge, Massachusetts. Gen. Washington crossed New Jersey over three days in June 1775 on a journey that would prove a prelude to the eight years of the Revolutionary War to come.
Follow George Washington’s first “Journey Through Jersey” as Commander in Chief through Trenton, New Brunswick and Newark and across the Hudson River from Hoboken to take command of the Continental Army 250 years ago in 1775.
Children and adults are invited to color or write cards of appreciation to veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces for delivery to New Jersey Veterans Memorial Homes in honor of the 250th Birthday of the U.S. Army & Armed Forces.
