Mars Essex Horse Trials Returns to Somerset Country
Following a 19-year hiatus, one of New Jersey’s most recognizable equestrian competitions, Mars Essex Horse Trials, will return to the U.S. Eventing Association and U.S. Equestrian Federation calendar on June 24 & 25, 2017
Eventing, often referred to as an “equestrian triathlon,” combines the elegance of Dressage, the thrill of Cross-Country and the precision of Show Jumping. Essex will initially offer Beginner Novice through Preliminary levels.
Essex will make its new home at historic Moorland Farm in Far Hills, home of the Far Hills Race Meeting, an annual steeplechase event that has raised millions for healthcare in the region. Proceeds from Mars Essex Horse Trials will benefit Greater Newark LifeCamp in Pottersville, NJ. LifeCamp provides an enriching day camp experience for approximately 300 Newark-area youths for six weeks during the months of July and August.
In addition to the thrilling horse competitions, the country weekend will feature a boutique market, food from a wide range of local vendors, a classic car show, and children’s activities.
Tailgate spots and an all-inclusive tent called the “Hoopstick Club,” are also available. For information call 908-234-9115.
The Essex homecoming is part of a long-range strategic plan, organized and supported by members of the local community whose goal is the revitalization and growth of high-level equestrian events and competitions in Somerset County and the surrounding region.
