Unlike a performance, the musicians at a session are playing for enjoyment – as much for each other as for anyone who may come to listen. There may be a core group of players, and others who drop in now and then. In fact, we never know who will show up, or what instruments they may play. All completely acoustic and unamplified bringing the barn naturally to life!

Usually one person will start a tune, and those who know it join in. We play it until we feel like stopping, or we switch tunes.

To this group of musicians, virtuosity is less valued than the collective effort.

At Flounder we strive to bring amazing musical talent to the Barns without ever charging a cover charge. On music nights you will see collection cans for “Volunteer Cover Charge” – please toss in a few bucks if you like what you hear, this money helps pay for the amazing musicians coming in and helps the musicians go home with a bit more as well!
