BOUND BROOK, NJ — The 3rd annual Battle & Brews History Tour/Pub Stroll is returning to Bound Brook on Saturday, April 13, 2019 with some new guests dropping in.
Dropping in all the way from the 1770s.
This year’s history-themed trek through Bound Brook’s downtown Arts District features actors and musicians dressed in Colonial attire who will interact with tour attendees and provide their unique 18th-century perspective on local restaurants and taverns visited along the route.
Local historians lead two tours (1-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m.), interspersing stories about Bound Brook’s colorful history with savvy tips for enjoying borough restaurants and cultural activities today.
Registration for the free tours is at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/3rd-annual-battle-brews-history-tour-pub-stroll-tickets-56683409604.
Battle & Brews History Tours/Pub Stroll is one of several events enlivening the Battle of Bound Brook Living History Weekend presented annually by South Bound Brook’s Abraham Staats House. Period British and American troop regiments spend Friday through Sunday re-enacting the 1777 Battle of Bound Brook, pitching camp, holding military drills and demonstrating Colonial crafts and cooking.
The Battle & Brews tours were developed to encourage those attending the re-enactment to explore what contemporary Bound Brook has to offer. “‘Come for the battle, stay for the brews’ is the philosophy behind the event,” says Lawrence McCullough, Downtown Manager for Bound Brook Revitalization Partnership. “Battle & Brews gives you the kind of history you won’t find in the history books.”
Rugved Deshpande, a digital media associate from Piscataway, attended the 2017 tour. “I live one town over and had no idea Bound Brook had so many interesting places to eat and drink,” he says. “My friends and I had a great time, and I look forward to doing Battle & Brews again this year.”
Bound Brook resident Andrea Cunnell found the event eye-opening. “Battle & Brews is a blast! I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I met fascinating people, learned a lot of Bound Brook history and enjoyed the hospitality of the local eateries.”
Battle & Brews History Tour/Pub Stroll is coordinated by EMI Strategy of Newark and made possible in part by the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of the Department of State through the County History Partnership Program Grant, and administered in Somerset County by the Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission. The event is presented by Bound Brook Revitalization Partnership with support from the Borough of Bound Brook.
Bound Brook Borough Councilman Anthony Pranzatelli stresses the value of connecting with local business owners. “We have a new wave of arts and commercial activity that is making Bound Brook a visitor destination,” he notes. “With Battle & Brews, people learn fun history facts about Bound Brook and get a heads-up on what’s next.”
