Designed in the typical layout for private clubs in the 1950s and early 1960s, the Mattawang Golf Club is a challenging venue with fairways that are quite tight despite their appearance as wide and open. Most of the greens are small, and protected by sand traps, having gained a reputation as among the best maintained putting surfaces in the state. Golf Style Magazine voted the Mattawang Golf Club "Best Public Value Club in New Jersey," in 2010 and 2011.
